Why is the Fund for Affected Oil and Gas Workers important to the community?
Contra Costa County is home to one-third of California’s oil refineries. Recent policy shifts and economic forces—including California’s Just Transition, a 12-year roadmap to phase out fossil fuels—directly impact the 112,000 oil and gas workers across the state. Our program bridges the gap between traditional energy roles and high-wage jobs in sustainable sectors, leveraging the existing technical expertise of our local workforce.
