Workforce Development Board Advocates for Regional Priorities at CWA Day at the Capitol
The Workforce Development Board (WDB) of Contra Costa County was proudly represented at the Annual California Workforce Association (CWA) Day at the Capitol by Executive Director Tamia Brown, Youth Program Manager and Grant Manager Noramah Burch, and Administrative Services Assistant III Vincent Manuel. This important statewide event provides a platform for workforce development leaders to engage directly with Sacramento legislators and their staff, sharing insights on regional initiatives and pressing workforce needs.
During this year’s event, CWA highlighted two key pieces of legislation aimed at strengthening California’s workforce system. Assembly Bill 2300 (Arambula) seeks to modernize outdated administrative requirements that can delay critical workforce investments. The bill would also authorize the Employment Development Department to issue operational directives in collaboration with local workforce boards, improving efficiency and responsiveness across the system.
In addition, Senate Bill 845 (Perez) was a central topic of discussion. This bill focuses on expanding and enhancing pupil instruction in career technical education, career pathways, and apprenticeship opportunities—ensuring that students are better prepared to enter the workforce with relevant skills and experience.
The WDBCCC joined forces with partners from the Alameda County Workforce Board and the City of Richmond Workforce Board to advocate for these priorities. Together, they met with two State Senators and five State Assemblymembers, underscoring the importance of these legislative efforts while highlighting the impactful work being carried out across their regions.
Participation in CWA Day at the Capitol reflects the WDB’s ongoing commitment to advancing policies that support workforce innovation, strengthen partnerships, and create greater opportunities for job seekers and employers throughout Contra Costa County and beyond.
